Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : We are a group of young men who pray and fast and do what we can of acts of worship, and praise be to Allah, but during breaks from work a lot of joking arises among us, so what is the ruling on that? May we be rewarded?

The Shaykh : First, we ask Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for these brothers to be steadfast in the acts of worship they perform, and that He make it in the manner that pleases Him, by being in accordance with the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his family, without excess or deficiency. We say: regarding your prescribed acts of worship, be steadfast. As for the joking after that, excessive joking is not good. It has been said that joking in speech is like salt in food; the food is not good without it, and the food is not good if it is excessive. Then, some people go to extremes in their joking and mention inappropriate words regarding their brothers that are not fitting, and it may reach further than that. It may be that they mock something of the acts of worship or something of the religion, and this is very, very dangerous. It may lead to disbelief, may Allah protect us from it. So they should joke with moderate joking, without exaggeration or deficiency.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
