Explaining that asking questions is one of the means of seeking knowledge.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for what follows, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire.
What came in the Book and the Sunnah is the exhortation to learn, and the establishment of a means for learning that is made easy and accessible for all people, which is the means of asking questions. Otherwise, you all know that seeking knowledge requires something that few people have the patience for, which is staying with the scholars in their gatherings and in their circles of knowledge and the like. But this means that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has made easy for people is general for all people, even if they are not students of knowledge. That is the saying of our Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He):
So ask the people of the message if you do not know. فَاسْأَلُواْ أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ
[An-Nahl 16:43]
. And confirmation of this matter or this means came in a hadith in Sunan Abu Dawud and others that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent a detachment for jihad in the path of Allah. When the Muslims met the disbelievers and fought them, and evening came upon them and they slept, one of them woke up having had a wet dream and having many wounds in his body. So he asked those around him if they found a dispensation for him not to take a bath. They said to him: You must take a bath. So the man took a bath and died because of the wounds that had afflicted him. When the news of him reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he cursed those who had issued the ruling for him to take a bath and said:
He killed him, may Allah kill him. Did they not ask when they were ignorant? For indeed, the cure for ignorance is asking. قتلوه قاتلهم الله، ألا سألوا حين جَهِلوا؛ فإنما شفاء العَيِّ السؤال
. The point of this hadith is his saying (peace be upon him):
The cure for ignorance is inquiry. فإنما شفاء العَيِّ السؤال
Sunan Abi Dawud 336
Since we are with you now in an impromptu session that cannot be repeated because we are traveling, it may be appropriate that we open the field for you so that each of you can bring up what concerns him regarding the problems of his life and matters of his religion. For this reason, I say: So ask the people of knowledge if you do not know. And I hope that the questioning will be free from confusion and disturbance and will be with deliberation. So let us start, for example, from the right. So whoever has a question to direct, and if not, the turn passes to the person after him, and so on. Do you have something? Yes.

The questioner : Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Yes.
