The questioner asks about the hadith in which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade gossip, the squandering of wealth, and asking too many questions. Is the question referring to asking for charity, or is it asking about matters that a Muslim should not ask about?

The questioner : In his final questions, this questioner asks: In the hadith in which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade gossip, the squandering of wealth, and asking too many questions, is the question referring to asking for charity, or is it asking about matters that a Muslim should not ask about?

The Shaykh : Asking too many questions includes asking about knowledge and asking about money, but asking for money without a reason that makes it permissible is forbidden. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who begs the riches of others to increase his own is asking only for live coals, so let him ask a little or much. من سأل الناس أموالهم تكثّرا فإنما يسأل جمرا فليستقل أو ليستكثر
Sahih Muslim 1041
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that a man will keep asking until he comes on the Day of Resurrection with no piece of flesh on his face.
As for asking about knowledge, if it is for a matter that has occurred and he asks about it to clarify the ruling for him, then this is something that is necessary, and the person is praised for it. But if it is asking about difficult problems, burdening the one being asked, and pursuing scholars to ask them so that he pits some of their statements against others, then this is blameworthy.
Likewise, asking too many questions in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was forbidden. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that the greatest of people in sin, or he said in crime, is the one who asks about a matter that was not forbidden, and it was forbidden because of his question.
And he informed that what destroyed those who came before us was their many questions and their disagreement with their prophets. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
