The suspended intention on the days of Tashu'a and Ashura, where I do not know whether the month has entered or is complete, so I fast the ninth, tenth, and eleventh with an intention

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The suspended intention on the days of Tashu'a and Ashura, where I do not know whether the month has entered or is complete, so I fast the ninth, tenth, and eleventh with an absolute intention. What is the ruling on that?

The Shaykh : There is nothing wrong with this. That is, if a person is in doubt about the entry of the month, there is no blame on him for fasting three days. But I say: there is no need for this, because if the entry of the month is not established by the sighting of the crescent moon.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : If its entry is established by completing the month of Dhul-Hijjah with thirty days, and the month of Dhul-Hijjah must be known to have entered according to the Shari'ah, because people will stand on the ninth day and sacrifice on the tenth day. If the crescent moon is not seen on the night of the thirtieth of Dhul-Hijjah, we complete Dhul-Hijjah with thirty days and no doubt remains. And if it is seen, we act according to the sighting and no doubt remains. So the claim of doubt here is not applicable at all, because the matter is clear. Even if we assume that we did not see it on the night of the thirtieth of Dhul-Hijjah and completed Dhul-Hijjah with thirty days, and then we saw the crescent moon large and high, there is no need for doubt, and it is not befitting for us to doubt, because we have a Shari'ah path: "If it is obscured to you, then complete the count of thirty." Introducing doubts into the souls is what necessitates anxiety. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh, and may Allah bless you and your knowledge, and benefit the Muslims through you.
