The Shaykh Al-Albani’s words on the importance of reliance upon Allah in seeking sustenance and the warning against excessive passivity

The Shaykh : ... and others, especially since we are currently making good du'a for him, if Allah wills.
In the hadith of Ka'b ibn Ujr (may Allah be pleased with him), the Companions were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) one day when a young man of strong, robust build passed by them. They said, "If only this man were in the cause of Allah," meaning that this youth, this vigor, and this strength, if this person were to direct that toward jihad in the cause of Allah. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:. So this hadith actually commands us to do two things. The first is the text of the hadith itself: that we do not forget our Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He) behind our reliance on means. This is a very important aspect; it is the aspect by which all disbelievers are afflicted, the materialist disbelievers who rely on taking material means without turning to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), the Creator of the means, while taking those material means.
So this hadith wants to connect the heart of the believer to his Lord. So when you go out in the morning to your work, to your shop, to your job, you should not forget your Lord who has made these means available for you, and you have taken them in response to your Lord who commanded you to strive on earth, and you consider this striving to be in the way of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), as you have heard.
So the Muslim must not let one aspect overpower the other; that is, his turning to Allah and his supplication to Him to provide for him and feed him must not overpower him, nor must this purely devotional aspect overpower the taking of means for sustenance, so that he does not take means relying on the Lord of Lords in his claim. No, rather he combines both. And likewise, the Muslim should not fall into the opposite of that, as is the case with the disbelievers and those among the Muslims who follow their path, the wicked ones; he should not strive relying only on his striving without connecting this striving to the success of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) toward him and His providing for him. It is obligatory for the Muslim to combine both: turning to Allah to provide for him and feed him, and taking the means that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has placed on earth as causes for sustenance. Whoever does that is a true Muslim. If one of these two aspects or one of these two sides overpowers the other, he has deviated from the Islamic legal truth.
Whoever leaves taking the means of sustenance, relying on seeking sustenance from Allah, has left taking the means, and has not applied the text of His saying (Mighty and Majestic):[Al-Mulk 67:15]. And whoever walks on its heights without turning to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) with that, asking Him to feed him and provide for him, his case is the case of the disbeliever who does not realize this text: Sahih Muslim 2577a. So in other words: we must not be materialists who rely on means only without mentioning their ordainer, the Lord of Lords, and we must not be Sufis who rely only on worship, including du'a, and do not take the means that Allah created and made causes for sustenance and for our Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He) to feed us.
And the truth is. He is not a Sufi who leaves taking the means, nor is he a materialist who relies on means without the Lord of Lords, but rather he combines both: he takes the means that Allah legislated, and he also turns his heart to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), saying to Him: "My Lord, provide for me." Because He says: ; that is: seek from Me what is with Me of sustenance, and I will provide for you. And so it was among the supplications of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), as many of you know, that he would supplicate between the two prostrations and say: . So why did the Messenger of Allah supplicate to his Lord to provide for him, even though he said: [Adh-Dhariyat 51:22]? Even though it came in the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud that the angel comes to the fetus in the fourth month and asks his Lord about his lifespan, his sustenance, his happiness, and his misery, and he is commanded to write his sustenance, his lifespan, and his happiness?
So sustenance is written, and happiness or misery is determined, and lifespan is limited; so do we not take the means of happiness? Do we not take the means of long life? Do we not take the means of good sustenance? The answer: It is obligatory that we take them, because it is the Sunnah of Allah in His creation,[Al-Ahzab 33:62].

So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If this person went out striving on earth for two old, elderly parents of his, he is in the cause of Allah. And if he went out striving for children of his, he is in the cause of Allah. And if he went out striving to chaste himself, he is in the cause of Allah.
So this hadith wants to connect the heart of the believer to his Lord. Whoever leaves taking the means of sustenance, relying on seeking sustenance from Allah, has left taking the means, and has not applied the text of His saying (Mighty and Majestic):
It is He who made the earth tame for you - so walk among its slopes
هُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُم الأَرْضَ ذَلُولًا فَامْشُوا فِي مَنَاكِبِهَاall of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you
And the truth is
And He was a firm support between them.
So ask me for food and I will feed you
My Lord, forgive me, and have mercy on me, and heal me, and raise me, and grant me well-being, and guide me, and provide for me
And in the heaven is your provision and whatever you are promised.
So sustenance is written, and happiness or misery is determined, and lifespan is limited; so do we not take the means of happiness? and you will not find in the way of Allah any change.
