The Meaning of Reliance upon Allah in Sustenance

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner, Umm Sultan, says in this question: Does the meaning of reliance upon Allah in matters—including sustenance—mean staying in the house without striving, and is it sufficient to say that Allah is the One who provides?

Answer:
Reliance upon Allah means depending on Him, the Exalted, and acknowledging that He is the Provider, while taking the necessary means. One does not depend on the means; one depends on Allah, (Exalted and Majestic is He), and acknowledges that He is the One who benefits through the means. However, along with this, one must act through the means: one sells and buys, plants, practices a trade, works, and does not sit in the house like this. No; be sensible and rely on Allah. It is obligatory for one to work and strive in the means of sustenance, whether through selling or buying, or any work such as tailoring, blacksmithing, carpentry, or otherwise, or farming, and the like, while relying on Allah and depending on Him, and acknowledging that He is the Provider . Thus, one combines the two: relying on Allah and taking the means.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
