Is it better to eat from the 'aqiqah or to distribute it among friends?

The questioner : Peace be upon you.
The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah
The questioner : How is the Shaykh?
The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, I am well
The questioner : May Allah make us well, if Allah wills
The Shaykh : May Allah make you well
The questioner : We ask about the 'aqiqah: is it better to slaughter it and give its meat away, or to feed people with it at a walimah?
The Shaykh : The best is what is most beneficial for you, for the one who wants to slaughter. The benefit is of two kinds: a kind that is for the Hereafter and a kind that is for this world. So a person acts within the limits of his situation. If we suppose a person who is full of meat and satiated, then he slaughters for the newborn boy or girl and distributes it; this is for the Hereafter. But if we suppose another person who is destitute, like in my story, meaning he is not satiated and not full of meat, then he will delight himself and his children with this lawful occasion. So the matter is as Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Qiyamah 75:14] and it has become clear to you, if Allah wills.
The questioner : May Allah bless you.
The Shaykh : Welcome.
