The questioner : This is a questioner for the program who says in this question: I am a student studying at the College of Sharia, and I am suffering from a problem, which is that when my teacher asks me to read in front of my classmates, I am unable to read, and I am overcome with intense fear and anxiety. And if I am the imam in the loud prayer, I am unable to read as well. I am extremely shy. My question, O honorable Shaykh, is what is the solution to this problem, what is the cure, and what do you advise me? May you be rewarded. Even though I am a student at the College of Sharia, may you be rewarded?

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment. I say that this shyness that befalls the questioner is excessive shyness beyond what a person should be. The cure for that is for him to feel that the people around him are of his own kind and do not differ from him, and for him to make himself feel that if he speaks and makes a mistake, all people make mistakes; the mistake is not limited to one group over another.
And among the cures for that is for him to train himself in private places, such as standing and talking with two or three of his classmates or the like. And if he cannot do that, let him talk to himself alone in his room, standing and speaking as if he is speaking to people, until the shyness disappears from him little by little. Because if he remains in this state, people will lose the benefit of his knowledge, except through writing. Therefore, I advise my brother to be brave and to train himself little by little until he is able to face people with speech.
And it is amazing that he mentioned that this befalls him even in the recitation of the prayer, even though if he is the imam, the people are behind him, and he is reciting the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. He does not bring words from himself, and the mistake in the Qur'an at the level of this questioner will be small. So my advice to him is to train himself until Allah benefits people through him and his knowledge. And Allah is the One who grants success.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with the best reward for us and for the Muslims.
