What is the ruling on placing bells in houses?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : What is the ruling on the presence of a bell in the house, whether it is on a clock, in the bathroom, or elsewhere? I mean, the bell in the bathroom, the mere presence of a bell?

The Shaykh : We mentioned in some of our books, and I do not know now where, that the forbidden bell is the one that resembles the gong.

The questioner : Its sound and its shape?

The Shaykh : Yes, that is right. As for this continuous ringing, it is not what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade and spoke about in the hadith:
The angels do not enter a house in which there is a bell. لا تدخل الملائكة بيتًا فيه جرس
Sunan Abi Dawud 4231Hasan (Al-Albani)
Rather, it is the one placed on the necks of rams and male camels; it produces a sound exactly like the gong. That is the forbidden one.

The questioner : The clock chime makes a tock-tock sound.

The Shaykh : This must be disabled. It resembles the gong exactly.
