Is it permissible to pray over a suicide victim? And is it permissible to shroud him?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : This is a questioner for the program who says, “I hope you will answer my question, which is: Is it permissible to pray over a suicide victim? Is it permissible to shroud him? Is it also permissible to bury him in Muslim cemeteries? And is he considered an apostate from Islam?”
The Shaykh : The suicide victim is one who killed himself, may Allah protect us from that, whether he committed suicide with a weapon, fire, by jumping from a high place, or otherwise; the point is that he killed himself. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that whoever kills himself with something will be punished with it in the Fire of Hell, remaining therein forever, eternally. We ask Allah for safety. However, despite that, he is prayed over because he is a Muslim, unless the imam, who is the general authority or the imam of the mosque who has standing in the society, decides not to pray over him himself as a deterrent to others. In that case, there is no harm in him leaving the prayer over him and saying, “Pray over him,” and he is buried with the Muslims because he is a Muslim. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah reward you and bless you, O honorable Shaykh.
