The Ruling on Washing the Body of a Suicide and Praying Over Him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Is one who kills himself washed and prayed over?

A: One who kills himself is washed, prayed over, and buried with the Muslims; because he is a sinner and he is not a disbeliever; because killing the soul is a sin and not disbelief. And if he kills himself, may Allah protect us from that, he is washed, shrouded, and prayed over, but it is recommended for the Grand Imam and for those of importance to leave off praying over him by way of disapproval; so that it is not thought that he is pleased with his deed. If the Grand Imam, or the Sultan, or the judges, or the head of the country, or its emir, leaves that off by way of disapproving of this thing and declaring that this is an error, then that is good, but some of the worshippers pray over him.
