The questioner : In the last of this questioner's questions, she says: I believe in all the blessings of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), but my soul does not desire garlic, for I am from a family that does not like it. When I smell its scent alone, I feel distressed and I feel heat in my heart and chest, and my breathing becomes difficult because of it. However, my family cannot do without it, so I forbade it for them. The family then bought garlic pills from the pharmacy that have no scent, and the value of these pills is several times what we buy by the kilogram. The question remains: Is there a sin on me for that, knowing that it is not in my control? May Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : If this causes hardship for the family, then it is not permissible for her to prevent them from it. And if it does not cause hardship, there is no harm in saying to them that this harms me and hurts me, and that I forbid it for them, meaning I prevent you from it. But if they did not comply and they ate the garlic after she had forbidden it for them, it is obligatory for her to pay the expiation for an oath, because forbidding what Allah has made permissible with the intention of abstaining from it has the ruling of an oath. This is due to the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He)
(1) O Prophet, why do you prohibit [yourself from] what Allah has made lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (2) Allah has already ordained for you [Muslims] the dissolution of your oaths
[At-Tahrim 66:1-2]
Thus, Allah made the forbidding of what He has made permissible an oath, where He said
Allah has already ordained for you [Muslims] the dissolution of your oaths قَد فَرَضَ اللَّهُ لَكُم تَحِلَّةَ أَيمانِكُم
[At-Tahrim 66:2]
.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
