The ruling on eating garlic and onions for the one who prays, if he is able to remove their smell.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : For days now, we have been in Jordan, and we eat garlic with fava beans. The smell of the garlic is gone by the time the midday prayer comes. This is a solution. The final solution is if a person feels that after eating garlic, or a dish containing raw garlic, the smell of that garlic is in his mouth, the remedy is easy. A mint candy like this removes the smell. Likewise, a fresh mint leaf.
The questioner : Or parsley.
The Shaykh : Or parsley, or any of the legumes that remove the smell. Then there is no problem in that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he forbade that, as you know from his saying, the angels are harmed by what harms the children of Adam. If the cause is gone, the effect is gone. And it is very easy now for a person to avoid the smell of garlic by the simplest means, such as a mint candy, a mint leaf, or any of the legumes, as you know that. So there is no problem in that, if Allah wills.
The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh : And beware of that.
The questioner : Or parsley.
