Praise be to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. As for what follows, this is one of the tapes from the Hidayah wa al-Nur series of scholarly lessons and legal rulings by our Shaykh, Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani (may Allah preserve him). We ask Allah to benefit everyone with it. And now, with tape number two hundred and one.
Questions via telephone

The questioner : I performed a complete wudu' as usual, prayed 'Isha', and slept in my socks. On the second day, the original intention was to wash, but I did not wash. I performed wudu' for Maghrib and remained in that state of wudu' until 'Isha', so I prayed 'Isha' with the wudu' of Maghrib. Is this permissible, or did the wiping become invalid after the five prayers?

The Shaykh : Wiping becomes invalid after a day and a night have passed since you began the wiping. If that time has not passed, you may continue to wipe. The situation you described, as I understand it from you, is that twenty-four hours have not yet passed, which is the duration for wiping.

The questioner : Twenty-four hours have passed for me, but the last prayer was 'Isha', and I remained in the state of wudu'.

The Shaykh : Listen, my brother, listen. When did you start the wiping?

The questioner : Fajr.

The Shaykh : For example, Fajr today, and then I slept that night without removing the sock. I wiped tomorrow. Until when?

The questioner : Dhuhr, 'Asr, Maghrib, 'Isha. That makes four prayers.

The Shaykh : The prayers do not concern me. When did you start the wiping?

The questioner : I told you, I started the wiping at Fajr.

The Shaykh : You want to wipe until the second Fajr. The prayers do not concern you.

The questioner : Even if I remained in the state of wudu', for example, if my wudu' was broken, would I perform a second wudu'?

The Shaykh : Understand, may Allah guide you. You performed wudu' at five o'clock for the Fajr prayer, right? It is permissible for you to wipe until five o'clock for the second Fajr. Do you understand?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So, either you wiped before five o'clock on the second Fajr, and this last wipe is valid, and you are maintaining your wudu' for 'Isha'. Can you pray all day, with the remaining prayers, with the wudu' of Fajr?

The questioner : May Allah bless you and reward you with good.
