Due to the crowds, we were unable to perform wudu or tayammum for the Maghrib prayer, and because of the long road and the distance between the jamarat and our accommodation building, we did not perform the prayer until its time had passed

The questioner : In the second question from this questioner from Bisha, she says: Due to the crowds, we were unable to perform wudu or tayammum for the Maghrib prayer, and because of the long road and the distance between the jamarat and our accommodation building, we did not perform the prayer until its time had passed. The question remains: Do we bear any sin for that?

The Shaykh : The matter is broad, and praise be to Allah. If a pilgrim is unable to perform the Maghrib prayer in its time, he should combine the Maghrib and Isha prayers, because the door to combining is wide. The rule for combining is that whenever leaving off the combination is difficult for a person, combining is permissible for him. This is based on the hadith of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him both), who said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) combined the Dhuhr and Asr prayers, and the Maghrib and Isha prayers, in Medina, without fear or rain. They asked him what he intended by that?" Meaning, why did he do this? He said: "He intended not to burden his Ummah." This indicates that whenever there is hardship, meaning difficulty, in leaving off the combination, it is permissible in all cases, whether in residence or in travel.
As for delaying the prayer from its time, for example, if that is in the time of Asr and one did not pray Asr, and the time for prayer narrowed and the sun was about to set, then here he must pray in any place. It is not necessary for him to pray in his tent, and praise be to Allah. Any place he turns to or deviates to, he will find something in which to pray. Yes.
