The questioner : I mean, we are gathered now, is it obligatory for them as an obligation, or in terms of permissibility?

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for them. How could it not be? The day of Friday is not as some of the jurists say, and I do not say some of the scholars, the day of Friday is the Friday prayer. It is not a substitute for the midday prayer, but rather it is the original obligation. However, the substitute is the prayer of four units for the one who missed the Friday prayer, or the one who caught the Friday prayer but only at its end, though he did not catch it as he said (peace and blessings be upon him), and he was commanded to pray four units. So the Friday prayer on the day of Friday is the original, clear. Good, yes.
