The Shaykh’s fear for those who add to the religion after its perfection that death may overtake them while they are not Muslims.

The Shaykh : I wish I knew, if one truly believes in his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned earlier, "The best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad," can one imagine that he would add to his guidance (peace and blessings be upon him)? I fear for these people that the certainty of death may overtake them while they are not Muslims. Why? Because I cannot imagine a believer who truly believes in his Messenger, and that he conveyed the message and fulfilled the trust, with no deviation, no deficiency, and no addition, and yet he dares to encroach upon the status of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and his guidance, adding whatever he pleases to his guidance (peace and blessings be upon him). And his answer, with great regret, is, "There is nothing wrong with it, my brother?" This is a heedless person, and a heedless person must be warned. But I fear, and I fear greatly, that his heedlessness may continue until the day of his death. In that case, it is feared that he will die upon other than faith. Why? Because I understand that this person’s heart has not been penetrated by his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) Sahih Muslim 867a, as it is said, into the innermost part of his heart. Otherwise, this alone would have been a deterrent for him from daring to encroach upon the status of prophethood by adding to what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) brought, claiming that this is better. There is another hadith in which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) affirms his first hadith: Sahih Muslim 1844a. Do you see our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) like that? Or is it better than that? Or is it less than that? There is no doubt that it is better than that. And this is affirmed for you by his other hadith, which is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): . This hadith, and the one before it, and the one before that, and all the hadiths of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) are, in reality, an explanation and detailing of the noble verse: [Al-Ma'idah 5:3]. Some of the earliest predecessors understood the greatness of this noble verse. One of them was a Jew, then Allah granted him Islam, and that is Ka'b al-Ahbar. When he came to 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "O Commander of the Faithful, there is a verse in the Book of Allah that, if it had been revealed to us, the Jews, we would have taken the day of its revelation as a festival." 'Umar said: "And what is it?" He said: to the end of the verse. 'Umar said: "I am the most knowledgeable of people about it. It was revealed on a Friday, which is a festival, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was at 'Arafah." This is a festival. So if it was revealed on a festival, on a festival, then do not hope for more than that. It is as if he is saying to that man, "I have known the greatness of this verse after the predecessors. One of them is this one who was a Jew and then became a Muslim. I say, from my own perspective, that he was a Jew and then became a Muslim, because in some narrations it is Ka'b al-Ahbar. The hadith is authentic that a man from the Jews said: "If it had been revealed to us, the Jews," to the end of it.
