The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “To Pharaoh, Haman, and Qarun, and they said, ‘A sorcerer and a liar.’”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Then He said:
To Pharaoh, Haman and Qarun إلى فرعون وهامان وقارون
[Ghafir 40:24]
to the end of it.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that the leaders stand in the place of the followers, for the message was not addressed to these three alone, but to the entire family of Pharaoh; however, the masters stand in the place of the followers.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that the obstinate ones who defy the messengers have various reasons for their defiance and opposition to the messengers. It may be authority, it may be ministerial rank, it may be wealth, or it may be physical strength. In this verse, there are three reasons: kingship, secondly ministerial rank, and thirdly wealth. Among the people of 'Aad, it was physical strength; they said:
Who is greater than us in strength? من أشد منا قوة
[Fussilat 41:15]
.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is the stubbornness of the deniers of the messengers, where they said of this noble messenger that he is a sorcerer and that he is a liar.
And among its benefits is that what they said in refuting the call was merely a claim, for they did not present any evidence for their claim. It was merely that they said, “A sorcerer and a liar.” This is what the weak and incapable resort to when they are unable to refute the argument with an argument; they resort to cursing, insulting, and the like.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that the signs brought by the prophets are beyond the capability of ordinary people, as He said:
A sorcerer ساحر
And a sorcerer is one who brings forth matters that people are incapable of.
But the difference between a sorcerer and a prophet is that the prophet is supported by Allah the Mighty and Majestic, not by his own action. In other words, the sorcerer is the one who works on a thing until he brings about the miracle, whereas for the prophet, the signs come to him without any action on his part, but by the will of Allah the Mighty and Majestic. If a person says, “Then what is the difference between a karamah (a miracle granted to a righteous person) and a sign of a prophet?” we say the difference between them is that the karamah comes to a follower of the prophet, whereas the sign comes to the prophet himself. That is, the one to whom Allah grants a karamah from among the awliya (close friends of Allah) does not claim to be a messenger or a prophet, but Allah grants him the karamah as support for him or support for Islam, and in that is also a sign for the prophet whom he follows.
