Is it a condition for one who prays the prayer for guidance (istikharah) to see something in his sleep or to feel what he said in the prayer of istikharah, or is the prayer of istikharah a supplication like any other?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is it a condition for one who prays the prayer for guidance (istikharah) to see something in his sleep or to feel what he said in the prayer of istikharah, or is the prayer of istikharah a supplication like any other?

The Shaykh : That is not a condition. That is, it is not a condition that the one seeking guidance see something that indicates to him that this is the best for him. Rather, whenever a matter becomes easy for him after his istikharah, let him know that this is the good.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : If he has called upon his Lord with sincerity and pure intention, because in the supplication of istikharah, the man or woman seeking guidance says:
O Allah! If You know that this job is good for my religion and my subsistence and in my Hereafter--(or said: If it is better for my present and later needs)--Then You ordain it for me and make it easy for me to get اللهم إن كنت تعلم أن هذا ويُسمّي حاجته خير لي في ديني ودنياي وعاقبة أمري وعاجل أمري وءاجله فأقدره لي ويسّره لي
Sahih al-Bukhari 1166
So, if the matter becomes easy for him after the istikharah, let him know that this is the good, because he called upon Allah to choose for him what is good and to make it easy for him. So, if it becomes easy, that is a sign that it is the good. Perhaps a person will see something that indicates that this is the good for him. Perhaps Allah will make it easy for him by having someone advise him about something, and he takes his advice, and that becomes the good.
The important thing is that if you seek guidance from Allah with sincerity and pure intention, then whatever happens after that, by any of the causes, is the good for you, if Allah wills. Yes.
