The Shaykh : The second question

The questioner : Regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted:
O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided يا أيها الذين ءامنوا عليكم أنفسكم لا يضركم من ضل إذا اهتديتم
[Al-Ma'idah 5:105]

The Shaykh : The interpretation of this verse also came in the Sunan and in the Musnad of Imam Ahmad, in a hadith from Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him). He addressed the people one day and said to them: "O people, you are interpreting this verse in a way other than its true interpretation. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil يا أيها الناس مروا بالمعروف و انهوا عن المنكر
Sunan Ibn Majah 4004Hasan (Darussalam)
No. When you enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and the people do not respond to you, then at that time, no one who goes astray will harm you, provided you are guided. And part of your being guided is that when you see something wrong, you denounce it, and when you see something that requires enjoining it, you enjoin what is right. And so on. This is the second question.
