The Shaykh Al-Albani’s Note on the Hadith: “Whoever pleases Allah by the displeasure of the people, Allah will be pleased with him and make the people pleased with him.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : ...
Whoever seeks the pleasure of Allah through the displeasure of the people, Allah will be pleased with him and will make the people pleased with him. And whoever seeks the pleasure of the people through the displeasure of Allah, Allah will be displeased with him and will make the people displeased with him. من التمس رضا الله بسخط الناس رضي الله عنه و أرضى عنه الناس ومن التمس رضا الناس بسخط الله سخط الله عليه و أسخط عليه الناس
And so, Abu 'Azmi, may Allah bless you, remove from your mind the concern for the people. The people have no value. The Lord of the people is the One whom every Muslim must always keep His rulings before his eyes, whether the people are pleased or displeased, as that first poet said, “I do not care, when I am killed a Muslim, on which side my body falls, for Allah is my destination.” So what matters to you is what the people say? It is not necessary for you to care about what the people say; what is necessary is to care about what the Lord of the people demands of you. This is regarding the last Prophetic hadith I quoted for you just now. Then, it appears to me from this discussion that your son, or someone else, has not taken you on this road before we reached your house, because I think the east is visible from this road, and when the dawn appears, you see it. Have you and your children ever gone out to see the true dawn with your own eyes? Because seeing is not like hearing. No matter how much you have heard from me or others that the adhan is now being called half an hour or twenty-five minutes before the time, you may believe it, but there is something in your heart. But when you see the darkness of the night and the adhan is being called, you will see that this adhan is not the second adhan, but the first adhan. And so I advise you and your sons, from tomorrow morning, if Allah wills, and other mornings, to follow the adhan. When you hear the adhan from outside, go out and look. Like this mountain now, you will see darkness, but there is the light of the true dawn. Thus, you will be certain that this adhan is not the lawful adhan. This is first. And secondly, I am going around the observationThe Shaykh : Abu Malik made, that after you are convinced of this, after you see it with your own eyes, you will understand. Your congregation will make a fuss with you and say to you, “Call the adhan,” “Pray,” “They called the iqamah again,” just as we advise you, you advise them and remind them of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night] فكلوا واشربوا حتى يتبين لكم الخيط الأبيض من الخيط الأسود من الفجر
[Al-Baqarah 2:187]
extending from the north to the south, from the black thread of the dawn, so that you see it with your own eyes first, and then you see others with their eyes. At that time, there will be around you a group that is most like the group that was found around our brother Abu Malik after he reminded them and advised them. And so now there is no fuss, why? Because knowledge comes before action. Allah the Exalted said:
So know that there is no deity except Allah. فاعلم أنه لا إله إلا الله
Knowledge comes before action. And so you must know that this adhan is not in the lawful time. And to confirm what was mentioned before, in the context of Shari'ah policy, there is no harm in calling this first adhan, this astronomical adhan. You consider it the first adhan, because the dawn has already risen. So when you see with your own eyes the rising of the true dawn, you call the second adhan, making this a lawful adhan and a second adhan, which is also lawful. There is just one observation, and we take the opinion of the professor here, considering that he is familiar with what happens in such matters. You all know that the first adhan is the one in which it is prescribed to say, “Prayer is better than sleep,” “Prayer is better than sleep.” Be patient, be patient, may Allah fix my situation and yours. Be patient, may Allah bless you. So we all know that “Prayer is better than sleep” is only prescribed in the first adhan. So the question now is directed to the professor here: Is there any obstacle to performing the Sunnah without causing fitnah or a problem?
Abu Malik: Leave it for now.

The Shaykh : Leave it for now. I heard, Abu 'Azmi, he says, and he takes responsibility for it, he says, “Ask the experienced one, not the wise one,” especially if he is wise. He says that now the adhan is called as they call it, but in the second adhan, does he say “Prayer is better than sleep”?
Abu Malik: Leave it, leave it.

The Shaykh : Also, leave it.
Abu Malik: Do you want to know the reason, my Shaykh? The reason is that we have walked in this time, truly, and glorified be Allah, we found that the matter has become confused, very severely confused, and some people do not think that the second adhan is the one in which this phrase is not said, and so ... they are late for the prayer. The Shaykh : If you allow me, it appears to me that the situation with you is different from the situation here. Here it is a village, a very small village here. Perhaps he can understand with his congregation, so he says to them, “When you hear ‘Prayer is better than sleep’ in the adhan, that is the first adhan, and when you do not hear this phrase in the second adhan, that is the second adhan.”
Abu Malik: May you live long, my Shaykh. All the minarets have the adhan raised on them, yes, in the mosques around him, all of them raise ... .

The questioner : When he mentioned that they tell him, “The prayer has started in the mosque,” the prayer has started, because there are mosques around him.

The Shaykh : I know, my brother, but that is not our topic. Our topic is that we are discussing now whether the people of the mosque have understood the Shari'ah reality. Because the people of the mosque cause problems. You are saying, “They say this,” to counter their saying and to nullify the effect of this phrase. They understand, if it is possible, and the people of Makkah know its valleys best, and the owner of the house knows what is in it best.

Another questioner : If you allow me, my Shaykh, I say, the horse is from the rider. In my mosque, I have, thank Allah, established one adhan on Friday and established “Prayer is better than sleep” in the first adhan, and thank Allah, I abolished the unified adhan. I accustomed the people from the first day, and they went along.

The Shaykh : That is it. This is what I am mentioning now, Abu 'Azmi and 'Azmi, to spread knowledge, just as Abu Malik directed the view to that and convinced the people, because the people with you in the Fajr prayer, perhaps fifteen, fifteen.

The questioner : Yes, like that.

The Shaykh : So there is no problem.
Abu Layla : Good news for us in Zarqa, in the mosque of 'Umar, the old Shaykh, between the pillars, between one pillar and another, they made a decoration of cement, so thank Allah, now they removed it ... they removed it with their own hands.

The Shaykh : In any case, deliver your word and go.
As for the foam, it vanishes, [being] cast off; but as for that which benefits the people, it remains on the earth. فأما الزبد فيذهب جفاء وأما ما ينفع الناس فيمكث في الأرض
[Ar-Ra'd 13:17]
Please.

Another questioner : In the village mosque, so why don’t I call the adhan? What do I have to do? No one came to forbid it, meaning the matter is easy. It is completely different from the city ...The Shaykh : This is it, may Allah bless you, Abu 'Azmi. I think you have agreed with us, if Allah wills, to cooperate with your noble sons.

Another questioner : If Allah wills, your word, if Allah wills, is the decisive one.

The Shaykh : May Allah bless you.

The questioner : My Shaykh, our mosque in the village has another mosque next to it. So there, of course, there are tribes and clans, and these are the ones who built the mosque. They are zealous to pray in this mosque on Friday. So I said, “Here is a mosque and there is a nearby mosque, brothers, either everyone prays in this mosque or everyone prays in that other mosque on Friday.” So it was difficult for their hearts that the people of a tribe or clan would leave their mosque which they built and go out to pray in that other mosque. Nevertheless, by the grace of Allah the Mighty and Majestic, a congregation comes, and in the end, we close the mosque and they pray in one mosque.

The Shaykh : My master, the original thing is da'wah, and as the professor said,
Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction ادع الى سبيل ربك بالحكمة والموعظة الحسنة
[An-Nahl 16:125]
and then the truth is what will settle, by the permission of Allah. Now we have taken good examples, and thank Allah, Abu Malik is on the minbar, and from Abu Anas, and our brother Hashim, and so on.

The questioner : When he stands for the night prayer, did he perform the obligation of the Muslim? Meaning, did the obligation fall off him?

The Shaykh : According to the time of the adhan, may Allah bless you. If they performed it after the unified adhan by half an hour, they performed the obligation. Otherwise, before that, no.

The questioner : Meaning, according to the unified adhan, he does not perform his obligation.

The Shaykh : I am telling you something now, as a completion of the previous answer. I live on a mountain, they may call it Jabal Hamlan, and the 'Abus neighborhood, and above me there is a mosque that was built byThe Shaykh : the poor 'Ali. Every morning I hear the iqamah for prayer in this mosque, and the dawn rises, meaning they establish the prayer and the dawn rises. This means that the Sunnah they prayed, they prayed it before the time, at night. As for the obligation, it fell off. But I say, if in some mosques they pray before half an hour, it means they prayed the obligation outside its time.
Abu Malik: Most of the mosques.

The Shaykh : Most of the mosques.

Another questioner : The prayer at night, and the one who is forced now, does he pray Fajr in the mosque or at home?

The Shaykh : I advise both things together.

Another questioner : If he ... .

The Shaykh : Let me, let me. Did you understand what I mean by my saying that I advise doing both things together? That is, he should go to the mosque. If they pray the obligatory prayer before its time, as we mentioned earlier, then he will have a voluntary prayer. Then he returns home and prays the obligatory prayer in its proper time, especially praying it with his family, like this. But there is something more obligatory, although not every person is able to do this obligatory duty, which is to alert the people of the mosque to this issue. This is a serious matter. We read in the Qur'an a clear, decisive text preserved by the consensus of the scholars of the Muslims:
Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times. إن الصلاة كانت على المؤمنين كتابًا موقوتا
[An-Nisa 4:103]
That is, every prayer has a time. The time for the Fajr prayer is at the dawn of the true, white dawn that extends from north to south. There is absolutely no disagreement among the Muslim jurists regarding this ruling. Now, this ruling is being violated. Why? Because they have become entangled, Allah knows how long, with astronomical timekeeping. Astronomical timekeeping differs completely, because it takes sea level into account and gives a time for everyone at that level, whereas the situation differs between a man in a valley, a man on the side of a mountain, and a man on the peak of a mountain. All of these people have times that differ from one another completely. So, in conclusion, regarding your question, I advise that he pray with the congregation in the mosque. If they are praying thirty minutes early, he should repeat it in his home as a congregation and pray it as I said in the mosque of my neighbor. I mean, after the dawn breaks, they call for the prayer, so the obligatory prayer is valid, but the recommended practice is not valid. There is no power or strength except with Allah.
