What is the ruling on adding to the adhan in the unified adhan?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: Go ahead.

The questioner : The unified adhan now in many mosques, and adding to it, adding to the adhan, what is the ruling on this?

The Shaykh : As for adding to the adhan, we have spoken about this previously, where we said that the Prophetic adhan begins with Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar and ends with La ilaha illa Allah. I like a phrase in some Arab countries, specifically Syria, where the common people say, "The one who adds is the brother of the one who subtracts." The one who adds is the brother of the one who subtracts. And this is correct. This is a saying taken from the Sunnah.
He (peace be upon him) said:
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.
Sahih Muslim 1718a
, and you know the hadiths, and praise be to Allah, they are numerous in this meaning. Just as it is not permissible for a Muslim to pray Maghrib with four rak'ahs, so it is not permissible for him to pray Maghrib with two rak'ahs. Why? "The one who adds is the brother of the one who subtracts." Just as it is not permissible to add to the religion, so it is not permissible to subtract from it. Or perhaps the reverse should be said: the correct view is that it is more [severe], just as it is not permissible to subtract from the religion, it is not permissible to add to it. And it is strange that the masses of people have overlooked that they all agree in disliking subtraction from worship. No one sees it as permissible to pray Maghrib with two rak'ahs as one prays Fajr. But many people see adding to what the Messenger (peace be upon him) brought of worship and obedience, as we are now regarding the adhan. The adhan of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), which he taught Abu Mahdhura as we mentioned previously, and upon it was the adhan of Bilal the Abyssinian, and all the mu'adhdhins in all ages and eras began with Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar and ended with La ilaha illa Allah. So what justified adding, either before or after? They use their minds, and if only they were minds cultured with the correct Islamic culture. One of them says, if he is told, for example, "My brother, the Sunnah is that you stop in your adhan at La ilaha illa Allah and do not add," he will say to you, "My brother, what is the harm in it? What is the harm in it?" This person who says this word has not thought about the meaning of the verses and authentic hadiths. The noble verse that says:
This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
. You have completed it. After completion, there is nothing but subtraction. So how can this Muslim say, "My brother, what is the harm if I add, for example, the salutation upon the Messenger (peace be upon him) after my adhan?" My brother, reflect and think about it. The proportion of betrayal to your Prophet (peace be upon him). If you believed [that he had not conveyed everything], you would have disbelieved and exited Islam, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was addressed by the explicit text of the Qur'an and executed what was commanded in this text, which is His saying (Mighty and Majestic):
O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people
[Al-Ma'idah 5:67]
. And how sweet is the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when she said in a hadith of hers, and there is no harm in mentioning it in its entirety because of the benefit in it, and perhaps some people hold something contrary to what this hadith explicitly states. It came in "Sahih al-Bukhari" and "Sahih Muslim" with a sound chain from Misraq, one of the great Tabi'un, a noble man named Misraq , who came to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and said to her: "O Mother of the Believers, did Muhammad see his Lord?" She said: "My hair stood on end from what you said." He said: "O Mother of the Believers, have mercy on me and do not rush me. Does not Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) say in the noble Qur'an: وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَى And he certainly saw him in another descent[An-Najm 53:13]?!" She said: "I am the most knowledgeable of people about that. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) say: I saw Jibril in the form in which he was created twice, and he had six hundred wings, and he filled the horizon.
So Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) explained to Misraq the verse he asked her about, assuming that the verse meant that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) saw his Lord. She said to him: لا أنا أعلم الناس بذلك سألت رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - عن هذه الآية فقال رأيت جبريل في صورته التي خلق فيها مرتين وله ستمئة جناح وقد سد الأفق No, I am the one who informed the people of that. I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about this verse, and he said: "I saw Jibril in the form in which he was created, twice, and he had six hundred wings, and he filled the horizon.". Then Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) continued her speech and said: Three things: whoever tells you about them has committed a great lie against Allah. Whoever tells you that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw his Lord has committed a great lie against Allah. Read His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He): "And it is not for a human being that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a veil.". So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he was raised to the highest heavens, did not see his Lord, because when Allah imposed upon him what He imposed of the five prayers and spoke to him about it, He only spoke to him from behind a veil. And this is one of the meanings of the mentioned verse: وَمَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَنْ يُكَلِّمَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَّا وَحْيًا And it is not for any human being that Allah should speak to him except by revelation[Ash-Shuraa 42:51], through Jibril (peace be upon him) أَوْ مِنْ وَرَاءِ حِجَابٍ or from behind a veil, or He sends a messenger to the people. So Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) cited as evidence that it is not possible for a human to see his Lord in this world: مَن حدَّثكم أن محمدًا - صلى الله عليه وسلم - رأى ربه فقد أعظم على الله الفرية If anyone tells you that Muhammad has seen his Lord, he is a liarSahih al-Bukhari 7380. Then she recited the verse: وَمَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَنْ يُكَلِّمَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَّا وَحْيًا أَوْ مِنْ وَرَاءِ حِجَابٍ And it is not for any human being that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a partition[Ash-Shuraa 42:51]. And whoever tells you that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) knew the unseen has committed a great lie against Allah.. Then she recited His saying (the Exalted): قُلْ لَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ الْغَيْبَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ Say, "None in the heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allah[An-Naml 27:65]. Then she said—and here is the point of attention—: ومَن حدَّثَكم أن محمدًا - صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم - كتم شيئًا أُمِرَ بتبليغه And whoever tells you that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) concealed something he was ordered to convey. Pay attention, here is the point: مَن حدَّثَكم أن محمدًا - صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم - كتم شيئًا أمر بتبليغه فقد أعظم على الله الفرية Whoever tells you that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) concealed something he was ordered to convey has committed a great lie against Allah.. Then she recited His saying (the Exalted): يَا أَيُّهَا الرَّسُولُ بَلِّغْ مَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ رَبِّكَ وَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلْ فَمَا بَلَّغْتَ رِسَالَتَهُ وَاللَّهُ يَعْصِمُكَ مِنَ النَّاسِ O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people[Al-Ma'idah 5:67]. If Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had concealed something he was ordered to convey, he would have concealed the saying of Allah (Mighty and Majestic): "And [recall] when you said to the one on whom Allah had bestowed favor and you had bestowed favor, 'Keep to yourself your wife and fear Allah,' while you concealed within yourself that about which Allah is to disclose, and you feared the people, while Allah has more right that you fear Him.". If the Messenger had concealed something, he would have concealed this rebuke from his Lord for him. But in execution of the previous verse: يَا أَيُّهَا الرَّسُولُ بَلِّغْ مَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ رَبِّكَ وَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلْ فَمَا بَلَّغْتَ رِسَالَتَهُ وَاللَّهُ يَعْصِمُكَ مِنَ النَّاسِ O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people[Al-Ma'idah 5:67]. So the Messenger (peace be upon him) conveyed Islam in its entirety, down to the last letter, so that no one remains to add to it. If the Messenger taught the mu'adhdhins in his time that the adhan begins with Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar and ends with La ilaha illa Allah, then the saying of the one who said "The one who adds is the brother of the one who subtracts" is correct. So it is not permissible to add to the religion at all, because the religion has been completed. And how good is the word of 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them both) when he said, explaining the well-known hadith: كل بدعة ضلالة Every innovation is misguidance.. The hadith is like this: كل بدعة ضلالة ، وكل ضلالة في النار every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the FireSunan an-Nasa'i 1578. As for Ibn 'Umar, he added to this phrase a sentence that we can consider an explanatory sentence, and he said: "Every bid'ah is misguidance, even if people see it as good." Even if people see it as good. And this is the reality today, as I said previously. If you say "Do not do it," he will say to you, "My brother, what is the harm in it?" The harm is that you are adding to your Prophet what is not sufficient. This is sufficient. This and some of it is sufficient for misguidance and deviation from the Sunnah.
So we ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to keep us alive upon the Sunnah and to cause us to die upon it, all of us, if Allah wills (Blessed and Exalted is He). Yes.

The questioner : There is a group of people from the fasting Muslims who break their fast before the adhan, and there is a group who break their fast with the adhan. What is the ruling on these two groups?

The Shaykh : What is it? It appears you were not with us just now. May Allah bless you.

The questioner : I am always with you.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : You told us about the adhan of the suhur. No, I am saying the adhan of Maghrib.

The Shaykh : And the adhan of Maghrib, we spoke about it, and the adhan of Maghrib, and we spoke about hastening to break the fast and hastening to pray, and we narrated his saying (peace be upon him): لا تزال أمَّتي بخير ما عجَّلوا الفطر My community will remain in good condition as long as they hasten to break their fast.Sunan ad-Darimi 2:28. And we mentioned that the Messenger (peace be upon him), while traveling, said to one of the Companions: حضر لنا الفطور Prepare the food for us to break our fast.. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, there is day ahead of you." He said to him: حضِّر Prepare it.. And this Companion said: "If one of us had ridden his camel, he would have seen the sun." That is to say: the breaking of the fast was immediately upon the setting of the sun. And I also mentioned a hadith that we must memorize as we memorize al-Fatihah, which is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): إذا أقبل الليل من ههنا وأدبر النهار من ههنا وغربت الشمس فقد أفطر الصائم When the night approaches from this side (i.e., the east) and the day retreats from that side (i.e., west) and the sun sets, then it is time for a person observing Saum (fasting) to break his fast.Riyad as-Salihin 1236. Immediately, the fast must be broken; it does not need waiting.

The questioner : Now, when one is, my master, with a group.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : And this whole group refused to break their fast. Is it permissible for him to break his fast, and how does he know that the night and day have passed?

The Shaykh : May Allah bless you. We mentioned previously his saying (peace be upon him): مَن سنَّ في الإسلام سنة حسنة He who sets a good precedent in IslamSahih Muslim 1017a. This man who knows that the time has arrived, meaning the time for breaking the fast has arrived, and he adds to that that he knows that the Sunnah is to hasten to break the fast. If he takes the cup and drinks, and takes the date and eats it in front of these people, will he have established a good Sunnah or a bad one?

The questioner : A good one, of course.

The Shaykh: Yes, may Allah bless you.

The questioner : Okay, and why don't they say to you, "We also have a good Sunnah"?

The Shaykh: No...

The questioner : When we wait for the adhan so that he calls, we also have a good Sunnah.

The Shaykh : Here, it requires another research. May Allah bless you. If the adhan that we are waiting for is called at the time, then it is not permissible for anyone to eat before the adhan. But our discussion is that the adhan today, and I think you heard this speech, is called today ten minutes after the setting of the sun.

The questioner : Ah, what is it? We are talking about the adhan of today, we do not want the first adhan.

The Shaykh : Yes, so then, the one who waits for the adhan will have contradicted the Sunnah.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
The student : The dawn is rising, the true dawn.

The Shaykh : Be patient a little.

The questioner : The true dawn, when the adhan for Fajr is called, it will not have risen, meaning we rise. I, I go to work with the adhan, and the world is still night. Is it permissible for me to eat while I have not seen the dawn?

The Shaykh : Eat, and this is the Sunnah of delaying the suhur.

The questioner : I eat while I am going out to work.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : And he is sitting and calling the adhan.

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed, this is a recommended practice (sunnah). May Allah reward you.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : But we need people to watch for the dawn.

The questioner : It is not that I go out toward the east; when I am going out for my work, I do not see the dawn.

The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest.
