The issue of combining two prayers without an excuse.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The phone is ringing.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Peace be upon you

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah

The questioner : How are you, our Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, I am well

The questioner : If Allah wills, fine.

The Shaykh : ... Allah

The questioner : May Allah preserve you and bless your life.

The Shaykh : Welcome.

The questioner : Oh Shaykh, I asked about a brother from Jeddah who called. I was asking about Mustafa al-Adawi. He is one of the students of Maqbul. The Shaykh : Maqbul from Yemen?

The Shaykh : Yes, I know him.

The questioner : He is now in Egypt.

The Shaykh : Yes, I know him.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And you as well.

The questioner : My question is about the issue of combining two prayers without an excuse of rain or travel, and when does it become a matter of dire necessity? I mean, it is judged by its degree. For example, absolutely, a person is speaking on an important call with another person, in Saudi Arabia or anywhere else, and the requirement of this important call... is it permissible for him to... it might last a long time, meaning there is a long time for this call, between, for example, Maghrib and 'Isha'. Is it permissible for him, for example, to combine, for example, Maghrib with 'Isha' in that case?

The Shaykh : I don't know.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : I don't know about the importance of this issue?

The questioner : I mean, it goes back to the degree, according to the level of its importance.

The Shaykh : And I don't know that it cannot be compensated for?

The questioner : I mean: he wants to combine it with 'Isha', for example.

The Shaykh : You deviated.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : You deviated, I tell you: you deviated from the topic.

The questioner : Ah, I deviated.

The Shaykh : Or you went back to repeating the question. I answered you: I don't know that this is a dire necessity? And then I don't know that this dire necessity cannot have its benefit achieved in another occasion?

The questioner : I mean: if he considers that it cannot be delayed and is of importance, is it possible for us to combine?

The Shaykh : My brother, I am not able to give you an answer on this. I say: the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), as Ibn 'Abbas said, why did he combine? He said:
he (the Holy Prophet) wanted that his Ummah should not be put to (unnecessary) hardship. أراد أن لا يحرج أمته
Sahih Muslim 706b
, but I cannot say: so-and-so finds hardship, so it is permissible for him to combine. Rather, here one should fear Allah the Mighty and Majestic, and he proceeds to what his religion guides him to, if he is a person of religion. As for the mufti, he is not able to issue a fatwa that it is permissible for him in a specific detail, or that it is not permissible.

The questioner : Yes, may Allah reward you with good and may Allah bless you.

The Shaykh : And you as well.

The questioner : And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.
