The story of Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh (may Allah be pleased with her) regarding menstruation.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And we return to the story of Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh (may Allah be pleased with her), which we said is a ruling concerning women, but it is obligatory for men to know this ruling; because women are not afforded a gathering like this where the Book of Allah and the Hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) are studied, so it is the men who convey the rulings they hear. For this reason, scholars justify or permit that women in the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray the five daily prayers in the mosques, even though the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had mentioned to them his well-known saying
And their homes are better for them وبيوتهن خير لهن
. Nevertheless, they prayed in the mosques, why? Because they heard there lessons, sermons, and advice that they would not otherwise have the opportunity to hear... Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "She used to have a very severe irregular bleeding." And this irregular bleeding continued with her for two full years, and she thought it was menstruation. The strange thing about the matter is that she did not pray for two years; she did not pray because she assumed she was menstruating. She knew that a menstruating woman does not pray, indeed it is not permissible for her to pray, and so she did not pray because she assumed from this blood that she was menstruating. Because in some narrations regarding her, or regarding other women with irregular bleeding, in some narrations it is said that she
She used to flow like a gushing spring. كانت تثج ثجا
, and in a narration it is said that
When she used to bathe, the basin would turn into blood. كان إذا استحمت المركن الطشت ينقلب دما
. So she came, and by Allah, after what a long period, she came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned to him, "I am a woman who has irregular bleeding, so the blood does not stop from me." He said to her (peace and blessings be upon him):
It is only a vein. إنما هو عرق
. It stopped and the flow of blood from you continued, and it is not menstruation
So withhold from prayer the number of days you used to menstruate. فأمسكي عن الصلاة عدة الأيام التي كنت تحيضينها
. Before this affliction, this was
Then pray, even if the blood flows. ثم صلي ولو سال الدم
. And so, this hadith gives a ruling for women that it is obligatory for them to know the difference between the blood of menstruation and the blood of irregular bleeding, so that one of them does not fall into what Fatimah bint Abi Hubaysh fell into, leaving off prayer for this long period under the assumption that she was menstruating. And menstruation, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in some narrations, is
Menstrual blood is black and is known دم الحيض أسود يُعرِف
Sunan ad-Daraqutni 2:4
, and in a narration
It is known. ُيعرَف
. Regarding the first wording, "it is known" means it has a known smell; the smell of blood is foul to women. As for "known" by its color, the blood of menstruation is black and dark, while the blood of irregular bleeding is like any blood that comes out of a person; it has redness in it, no blackness. So this is one of the distinguishing features between the blood of menstruation and the blood of irregular bleeding. And perhaps we have not strayed from anything we were discussing, due to the length of the discussion.

The questioner: No, no.

The Shaykh : We did not forget anything, meaning because we digressed a lot, and it started like that.Abu Layla .

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And you as well, that is all.

The questioner : I was speaking about debt, and based on the brother's question
Then a glance to the left. فنظرة إلى ميسرة
. Now, people use promissory notes and checks in debt. Legally, for example, with promissory notes, a person has the right, if they become due, that there are promissory notes with specific dates, for example, one on 1/30, one on 2/30, and so on. The law states that if the date of the first one arrives and it is not paid, the entire remaining amount becomes due on the date of the first one. And based on that, you have the right to seize the property of the debtor, or sue him, or the like. Is this action permissible?

The Shaykh : No, it is not permissible in any way. And so we said, the interpretation of the last phrase of the hadith, "for me and the grandfather, it is permissible to expose his honor and punish him," means that the matter of this one who is negligent in fulfilling the obligation of payment must be referred to the ruler. If he is negligent, the ruler may impose the punishment he sees as corrective for him. But if it becomes a widespread system, this is not permissible, of course, because every case of confusion begins with "In the name of Allah." Did you get the answer?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: All right.
