The questioner : From Hail, the questioner M.S. says: May Allah preserve you, O honorable Shaykh. What is the authenticity of this hadith: “Indeed, Allah has one hundred and twenty mercies every day and night that descend upon this House: sixty for those who perform tawaf, forty for those who pray, and twenty for those who look at it”, meaning the Ka'bah?

The Shaykh : This is not authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). Looking at the Ka'bah is not an act of worship. However, if a person intends by looking at it to contemplate this exalted structure, which Allah has obligated His servants to visit for Hajj, and this contemplation increases his faith, then it is required from this perspective. But mere looking is not an act of worship. This clarifies the weakness of the statement of those who say that it is recommended (sunnah) for the one who is praying, if he can see the Ka'bah, to look at it rather than at his place of prostration. This statement is weak because there is no evidence for it, and because the one looking at the Ka'bah while people are performing tawaf around it must inevitably be distracted in his heart. The Sunnah for the one praying is to look at his place of prostration, except during the tashahhud, when he looks at the place of his pointing, meaning his finger, as he points with it. Similarly, when sitting between the two prostrations, he points with his finger during the supplication and looks at it. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
