The Shaykh : No, this is a Sunnah, meaning, as the jurists say, it has a rational purpose. It is not a purely devotional act performed solely for the sake of worship, but rather for treatment. A person who has a headache, back pain, or foot pain undergoes cupping at that time for treatment. That is why we find that the Messenger (peace be upon him) did not always undergo cupping in a specific place, but rather according to what? The need. Sometimes between his shoulders, sometimes on his leg, sometimes on his head, and so on. So, cupping is for treatment. Whoever needs it undergoes cupping, and whoever does not, does not. Is that clear?
