Explanation of the Hadith: (… A group from my Ummah will remain…)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A group of people from my Umma will continue to fight In defence of truth لا تزال طائفة من أمّتي ، قائمين على الحقّ
Sahih Muslim 1923
In another wording:
Manifest over others ظاهرين على غيرهم
In another wording:
Overpowering others قاهرين لغيرهم
If one of these people were to say now, “We are not dominant over others, we are not overpowering others, and we are not standing firm over others,” while the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said “until the Hour comes.”

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah. The issue, may Allah reward you, is relative. The narration mentioned byThe Shaykh : Ali here is completely literal. They fight; we do not actually fight. This does not need any discussion at all. But that does not mean they are not upon the truth except from this aspect. And if we stop now to look at the fact that they are not upon the truth from this aspect, we must reflect: Will the victorious group, which is upon the truth until the Hour comes, in a situation like this, be fighting? Meaning, will they actually carry weapons and fight the enemies, whether they are inside or outside? Is this possible to achieve overnight? Of course, the answer of every person of sound mind will be no. So if the matter is so, we imagine that this group either notices its shortcoming from this aspect, or admits that it is not shortcoming because it takes the cause that can lead it to this description being realized in it. At that point, if it is so, does it cease to be the victorious group? Meaning, either it takes the causes to become fighting, or it does not take them. If it takes them,

Another questioner : Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah. If it takes them, there is absolutely no blame on it, because as we said earlier, it is walking on this path. And if it does not take them, it is undoubtedly shortcoming from this angle, correct?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Now, as you know and see, if we believe that this path we are walking on, in terms of first what we call purification and then education, can this description be realized in the victorious group without this path? Either we say it is possible, and yet we do not do it, so we are not the victorious group. Or we say it is not possible except that we start from here. And at that point, it is very clear that we are not obligated now, considering that we are the victorious group, to carry weapons. We do not know how to use weapons, rather, we do not know how to make weapons, rather, we do not know where to get weapons. No one says that we must do this, as long as the prerequisites that should lead us to this final stage, which is the optimal attribute for the victorious group, as long as we cannot reach it by a leap, but rather by the method of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in His creation, it does not harm us at that point that this attribute of the Muslims fighting those who oppose them is not manifest now. If we leave this aspect after this explanation, we say it is established. Here, the standing firm can still be interpreted by argument. And we do not doubt that this, praise be to Allah, is established, especially in the present age, because people have begun to seek shade and return to their senses, to the call of the truth, the call of the Book and the Sunnah, after they used to turn away from it before. So I believe that there is no problem with the hadith of the victorious group, and that the description mentioned in it applies to the people of the Sunnah and the community truly, except for the attribute of fighting.

The questioner : Even the overpowering is so.

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : Even the overpowering.

The Shaykh : Even?

The questioner : Even the overpowering of others.

The Shaykh : Yes, this follows the fighting. At that point, we overpower them.

The questioner : We cannot imagine the overpowering is the fighting, in compliance with the Shari'ah of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and they do not want that. Does not this overpower them?

The Shaykh : But is this fighting? It might not be fighting.

The questioner : The hadith said “overpowering”?

The Shaykh : It said “overpowering and dominant,” but the fighting is the problem. The fighting.

The questioner : The fighting is another hadith.

The Shaykh : It is like that, but this is not realized now. As for the overpowering and victory by argument, explanation, and proof, this exists, praise be to Allah. Yes.
OAbu Layla : We want to pray and go, so let us go.
Abu Layla : Wait, Shaykh, but our brother is traveling.

The Shaykh : There is no time, the hour, because it will become half the night.
