The questioner : I found in "the two Sahihs" of Muslim and al-Bukhari a hadith with this text: It is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Whoever visits me after my death is as if he visited me while I was alive, and whoever intends to visit me in my mosque, I will be a witness and an intercessor for him on the Day of Resurrection, and whoever visits Makkah and intends to visit me in my mosque, two accepted pilgrimages will be recorded for him, and whoever visits Makkah and does not visit me has wronged me
And we learned in the schools that visiting graves is shirk (associating partners with Allah) that contradicts the perfection of tawhid (the oneness of Allah), so we ask for your guidance. May Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : This hadith is not in "the two Sahihs" nor in either of them, nor in any of the reliable books of hadith. Rather, it is a fabricated hadith, falsely attributed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
And if the matter is as the brother questioner stated, then it is obligatory for him to send this book to the Dar al-Ifta (Department of Fatwa) to look into it and take what is necessary regarding it. This is because such misleading books that contain fabricated hadiths from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or rather fabricated and attributed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), must be prevented from circulating in the markets. This is because the harm that occurs in them is many times greater than the benefit that occurs in them, if any benefit is attributed to them. As for the rest of his question, he says?

The questioner : He says, because we learned in the schools that visiting...

The Shaykh : Yes. And as for his statement that we learned in the schools that visiting graves is shirk (associating partners with Allah), he did not learn this. Rather, what is in the schools is that visiting graves is a sunnah (recommended practice) for men, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the visiting of graves and said:
I used to forbid you to visit the graves, but now visit them, for they remind you of the Hereafter. كنت نهيتكم عن زيارة القبور فزوروها، فإنها تذكّركم الأخرة
Musnad Ahmad 1236, 1237Sahih, because of corroborating evidence; this is a da'eef isnad because of the weakness of Ali bin Zaid and Rabee'ah bin an-Nabighah and his father are unknown], Sahih because of corroborating eviden (Darussalam)
But what is forbidden is for a person to travel specifically to visit graves. For traveling to visit graves is what the scholars mentioned is haram (forbidden) and not permissible. Yes.

The questioner : Also, O honorable Shaykh, if the questioner intends the visiting of graves by women?

The Shaykh : If he intends that, we do not know what is in his heart.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : But if he intends the visiting of graves by women, then the visiting of graves by women is haram (forbidden).

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Rather, it is one of the major sins, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Cursed are the women who visit graves لعن زائرات القبور
But if a woman passes by the cemetery, there is no blame on her to stand and greet the people of the graves, because she did not intend to visit.

The questioner : Very well.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. This is a message that reached from a listener of the program. The listener actually did not mention the name here in this message. From his questions, this question says.
