A Word on the Two Testimonies
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Therefore, I advise you, if Allah wills, and I am trustworthy with you, to know the Sunnah that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) practiced so that you may practice it, and what he left so that you may avoid it. By doing so, you will have fulfilled the right of the two testimonies: "There is no god but Allah" and "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." For the first testimony means that you do not worship anyone but Allah, and the second testimony means that you do not worship Allah except by what the Messenger of Allah brought to you. They are two testimonies and they are two types of tawhid (the oneness of Allah). This is also a term, and I ask your forgiveness for using it: two types of tawhid—tawhid of Allah in worship and tawhid of the Messenger in following. Just as we do not worship Allah with anyone else and do not associate anything with Him, so we do not take another follower alongside our Prophet. He is our follower, and none other, and He is our Lord, and we do not worship anyone other than Him. This is sufficient. And all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. If there is a brief question, there is no objection, for up to a quarter of an hour.
