The Meaning of His Statement: (I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him))

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And he said that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This formulation is the highest form of transmission and the most eloquent in receiving and narrating a hadith. Indeed, narrating a hadith involves both receiving and transmitting. Transmission is conveying the hadith to another, while receiving is taking the hadith from another. So what is the difference? Brother, what is the difference?
The student: Narrating and transmitting.

The Shaykh : That is not what we said.
The student: Transmitting and receiving.

The Shaykh : Transmitting and receiving. What is receiving, as I said?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Okay... why? I am asking about receiving?
The student: Taking the hadith from another.

The Shaykh : Taking the hadith from another. Receiving is taking the hadith from another, and transmitting is conveying it to another. So here there is an intermediary, a beginning, and an end. The intermediary is the one who received and transmitted; the beginning is the one from whom he received; and the end is the one to whom it was transmitted and conveyed.
