What is the meaning of the believers' prayer upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh. You said that the prayer of Allah and His angels upon His Messenger is praise and eulogy. So what is the prayer of the believers?

The Shaykh : Yes, our prayer upon him, I mean?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, our prayer upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is that we ask Allah to pray upon him with praise and eulogy. So if you say, "O Allah, send blessings upon him," you are asking Allah to praise His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), to praise him and mention him with the noble attributes. As for the statement of some scholars that prayer is mercy, it is weak, weak without a doubt, from two angles:
The first angle is the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):
Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy أولئك عليهم صلوات من ربهم ورحمة
[Al-Baqarah 2:157]
Thus, He distinguished between prayers and mercy. From another angle, the scholars agreed that it is permissible for a person to supplicate for a Muslim with mercy, but they differed on whether it is permissible to pray upon a Muslim other than the prophets. This indicates the difference between prayer and mercy. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh. Is there a limit to the amount of prayer upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in a day and night?

The Shaykh : There is no limit. Pray upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as much as you wish, and it has no limit. I mean, if you continued to pray upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) all the time, except for what Allah has made obligatory upon you that is due to Allah, then you are in goodness.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
