A warning from the Shaykh and an admonition to debtors regarding the manipulation of people's money.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : I warn debtors against manipulating people's money, for some debtors also take money and play with it, then claim insolvency. They are truly insolvent, but their insolvency is the result of their manipulation. I also warn those who are afflicted with a desire to appear religious in the eyes of others to be lenient with themselves and not to be religious except out of dire necessity. Many people are poor and borrow for the slightest reason. A poor man built a structure for himself and said, "I am not satisfied unless the stairs are made of marble." The stairs of marble, and the man is poor, so he went to borrow money. How much is the marble for the stairs? It is expensive; I do not know its exact value, but it is certainly more expensive than cement. One hundred and fifty for the step, and one step is good. He put in the marble and said, "I am not satisfied unless we cover the stairs; let us put a carpet on them." This is a real situation. So, what do you say about this man who borrows for such purposes? This is foolishness in the mind. In reality, it is foolishness. A person must know his condition and act according to his condition. If Allah grants him provision, then at that time he can act like the rich. But for his spending to be like the spending of the rich, this is foolishness in the mind and misguidance in conduct. So, I warn those who borrow for these purposes that they have no need for. In the car, perhaps a used car for six thousand riyals is sufficient for him, but it runs well. What does he buy? He says, "Six thousand is not enough for me; I will buy one for fifty thousand riyals." This is also a real situation, and this is called the inferiority complex in psychology. That is, he feels that he is incomplete unless he keeps up with the rich in their conduct, even though some of the rich do not act as this man does.
