The Shaykh : Thirdly, its amount is one sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg), and what is obligatory is the Nabawi sa'. If a person gives more, there is no blame on him, and there is no dislike in it according to the stronger opinion among the scholars, even though some scholars disliked increasing beyond the Nabawi sa'. They said that this is a fixed amount prescribed by the Shari'ah, so it should not be exceeded. However, the correct view is that it is not disliked, because what is given in excess of the obligatory amount is voluntary and charity.
