The questioner : Allah the Exalted says:
And the good land brings forth its vegetation by the permission of its Lord, but the bad land brings forth nothing but salt and stones و البلد الطيب يخرج نباته بإذن ربه والذي خبث لا يخرج إلا نكدا
, what is the meaning of this verse? We find that in some disbelieving lands, all agricultural crops are present.

The Shaykh : In this verse, Allah the Exalted clarifies that the good land, which is receptive to rain and vegetation, brings forth its vegetation completely by the permission of Allah, while the bad land brings forth nothing but salt and stones, not completing in the desired manner. This is a parable for the acceptance of souls to the truth: some souls accept the truth, act upon it, and benefit from it, while others do not. As for the worldly blessings that the disbelievers have obtained, this is a trial from Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and it is something that will increase their regret and remorse when they face the punishment. Allah the Exalted said:
And the Day those who disbelieved are exposed to the Fire [it will be said], "You exhausted your pleasures during your worldly life and enjoyed them, so this Day you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation because you were arrogant upon the earth without right and because you were defiantly disobedient."
[Al-Ahqaf 46:20]
This world is the paradise of the believer, the paradise of the disbeliever, and the prison of the believer. It is mentioned that Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (may Allah have mercy on him), the commentator of al-Bukhari, "was the Chief Judge in Egypt. One day, his procession passed by a Jewish oil seller who was selling oil. He stopped him and said to them: 'Your Prophet says:
The world is a prison for the believer and Paradise for the disbeliever. إن الدنيا سجن المؤمن وجنة الكافر
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2324Sahih (Darussalam)
And you are now a believer, in this grandeur and this enjoyment, while this Jew is a disbeliever, an oil seller, in constant pain. How does this agree with the saying of your Prophet:
The world is a prison for the believer and Paradise for the disbeliever. إن الدنيا سجن المؤمن وجنة الكافر
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2324Sahih (Darussalam)
' The Hafiz (may Allah have mercy on him) said to him: 'The enjoyment I am in, compared to the bliss of the Hereafter, is considered a prison, and the punishment you are in is considered a paradise.'"
And Allah knows best.
