The Nisab of Zakah on Crops Grown from the Land

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Finally, the brother Muhammad al-Amin Abu al-Qasim says in his letter: What is the nisab of zakah on agricultural crops, and is there a difference between rain-fed agriculture and machine-irrigated agriculture, and what is the amount that comes out of the dates and these grains? May Allah reward you.
Answer: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified the nisab for these grains and fruits, and it is five wasqs. One wasq is sixty sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg), so the nisab is three hundred sa' by the sa' of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), of dates, grapes, and grains such as corn, barley, rice, and the like.
The sa' is four handfuls. The sa' of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is four handfuls with two moderate, full hands. Each handful is a mudd (a quarter of a sa'). This is the measure of the sa'. By weight, it is four hundred and eighty mithqals, and the mudd is one hundred and twenty mithqals, using medium-sized grain that is neither very heavy nor very light.
So the result is: the nisab is five wasqs, and one wasq is sixty sa', so the nisab is then three hundred sa' by the sa' of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which is four handfuls with two medium, moderate, full hands. There is no consideration for very large hands, nor for small hands, but rather with the hand of a man of moderate build, filled. So whatever fills his two hands is a mudd, and if it is four, it is a sa' by the sa' of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And if the crops are watered by rain and rivers, then one-tenth is due on them, meaning: one hundred out of every thousand, meaning: one hundred sa' out of every thousand sa'... and so on. And if the crops are watered by machines, or by the swaying of camels and others, then the obligatory amount is half of one-tenth, meaning: fifty out of the thousand. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you, and regarding dates as well, is it the same ruling?
The Shaykh: The ruling is the same. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
