Explaining the meaning of the Day of Judgment and why it is called that, and what it is applied to.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The Day of Judgment, what is the Day of Judgment? It is the Day of Resurrection.
It is the Day when a soul will not possess for another soul [power to do] a thing; and the command, that Day, is [entirely] with Allah.
[Al-Infitar 82:19]
This day is called the Day of Judgment because people are judged on it. What does it mean that they are judged on it? It means they are recompensed on it. The word *din* (religion/judgment) is sometimes used for recompense and sometimes for action, sometimes for recompense and sometimes for action. I will read to you verses in which we will test you:
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam
[Ali 'Imran 3:19]
What is meant by *din* here, my brother? Point with your right hand, my brother.
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam
[Ali 'Imran 3:19]
Is this the *din* of recompense or of action?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Two things? What agrees with the group? What do they agree on? Rest. Is it action or recompense? Are you sure? What do you say, everyone? These are two opinions: one says that *din* is recompense and action, and the other says it is action. Rest. Does anyone have a third opinion? Hmm?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Action. Yes, the correct view is action.
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam
[Ali 'Imran 3:19]
Islam is action. Now, Allah the Exalted said:
(15) They will [enter to] burn therein on the Day of Recompense, (16) And never therefrom will they be absent. (17) And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?
[Al-Infitar 82:15-17]
No, the one behind that. Is it recompense?
The student: ...
The Shaykh: Yes, exactly, rest. It is recompense. Now, in the noble verse with us in al-Fatihah:
Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.
[Al-Fatihah 1:4]
What is it? It is recompense.
Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.
[Al-Fatihah 1:4]
It means the Day of Recompense. Now, it is said: "As you judge, you will be judged." Does this mean "as you act, you will be recompensed"?
So if someone asks, "Is not Allah, Mighty and Majestic, the Master of the Hereafter and the World?" The answer is yes. Do you say yes? We say yes, He is the Master of the Hereafter and the World. So why is it specified with the Hereafter?
