What is the ruling in the Shari'ah regarding taking this oath on the mushaf, especially since its wording is performed as follows: "I swear by Allah the Great and His noble Book"? Is it sufficient for a person to say only "I swear by Allah the Great"?

The questioner : What is the ruling in the Shari'ah, in your view, regarding taking this oath on the mushaf, especially since its wording is performed as follows: "I swear by Allah the Great and His noble Book"? Is it sufficient for a person to say only: "I swear by Allah the Great"? And is there anything wrong with the addition in his saying: "the noble"? I hope for information on this.

The Shaykh : Taking an oath on the mushaf is among the matters that have been innovated, which were not known in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); rather, it was innovated afterwards. As for taking an oath by Allah, it is a prescribed oath, but it is not befitting for a person to take many oaths by Allah (Mighty and Majestic); rather, he should not take an oath except when there is a need for it.
As for taking an oath by the Book of Allah, which is the Qur'an, there is nothing wrong with it, because the Qur'an is the speech of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and the speech of Allah (the Exalted) is among His attributes, and swearing by the attributes of Allah is permissible, as the scholars have mentioned.
As for swearing by other than Allah or by one of His attributes, it is forbidden, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever has to take an oath should swear by Allah or remain silent. من كان حالفاً فليحلف بالله أو ليصمت
Sahih al-Bukhari 2679
and he said:
He who swears by anyone or anything other than Allah, has indeed committed an act of Kufr or Shirk من حلف بغير الله فقد كفر أو أشرك
Riyad as-Salihin 1711
Therefore, it is not permissible to swear by any of the creation, whether a messenger, an angel, the Ka'bah, or anything else. It is not permissible to say, "By the Prophet, I will certainly do such and such," or "By the Prophet, I did not do such and such." It is not permissible to swear by any of the angels, such as Jibril, Mikail, or Israfil. It is not permissible to swear by the Ka'bah, saying, "By the Ka'bah, I will certainly do such and such," or "By the Ka'bah, I did not do such and such," because this is forbidden and is a type of shirk (associating partners with Allah). Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you. This listener is Abdul Aziz, the owner of a bakery in the ... Eastern region of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
