The questioner : Noble Shaykh, what is your opinion regarding what many of the worshippers do when they hear the verses being recited, which shake the mountains, and they do not weep, and when they hear the supplication, they cry out from weeping?

The Shaykh : This is not something I can answer; rather, the question can be directed to the person who is described in this manner. Indeed, many people’s hearts do not soften for the Qur'an because they hear it frequently, but their hearts soften for the supplication because they rarely hear it. We know that when something is repeated often, it does not have the same effect as something new. However, I say that if we were to read the Qur'an with true reflection, it would be the sole cause for softening hearts and turning them toward Allah (Mighty and Majestic). On this occasion, I urge myself and my brothers to read the Qur'an with reflection and contemplation so that they may benefit from it. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said in Surat Qaf, after mentioning the state of the human being at death and the state of the human being at the Reckoning:
Indeed in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or who listens while he is present [in mind]. إن في ذلك لذكرى لمن كان له قلب أو ألقى السمع وهو شهيد
[Qaf 50:37]
