Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And We know that your soul is distressed by what they say..."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for the topic of da'wah (calling others to Islam), Allah the Exalted said to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
We know that you, [O Muhammad], are saddened by what they say قد نعلم إنه ليحزنك الذي يقولون
[Al-An'am 6:33]
We know, and He affirmed this knowledge with "indeed"
you, [O Muhammad], are saddened by what they say إنه ليحزنك الذي يقولون
[Al-An'am 6:33]
. In fact, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did grieve, his chest would tighten, and he nearly perished, as Allah the Exalted said:
Perhaps, [O Muhammad], you would kill yourself with grief that they will not be believers. لعلك باخع نفسك ألا يكونوا مؤمنين
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:3]
meaning, "Are you destroying yourself because they do not become believers?" This was due to his eagerness for the benefit of creation; he grieved over their denial of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
