If a person is in a calamity or affliction, I grieve over his grief and feel pain for his pain. Do I have a reward for that?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Umm Abdullah from the Holy City of Madinah says: If I see a person in a calamity or affliction or in grief, I grieve over his grief and feel pain for his pain. Do I have a reward for that? May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : What this questioner, Umm Abdullah, mentioned is among the implications of faith, for the believer feels pain for the pain of his brother, grieves over his grief, rejoices at his joy, and is happy at his happiness, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The believers in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion are like one body; when one part of it complains, the rest of the body responds with fever and sleeplessness. مثل المؤمنين في توادّهم وتراحمهم وتعاطفهم كمثل الجسد الواحد إذا اشتكى منه عضو تداعى له سائر الجسد بالحمى والسهر
And the fact that a person feels pain for what the believers feel, grieves over what they grieve over, and rejoices at what they rejoice at is proof that he is a pure believer who loves for his brothers what he loves for himself, and he will be rewarded for that, if Allah wills.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
