Patience in the face of calamity: Does it contradict a person’s being affected and grieving?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Patience in the face of calamity sometimes involves weeping and being affected.

The Shaykh : Yes, weeping without affectation is not a problem, and it is not possible for a person to refrain from it. Likewise, sadness and tears in the eyes are permissible. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding his son Ibrahim:
The eyes are shedding tears and the heart is grieved, and we will not say except what pleases our Lord العين تدمع والقلب يحزن ولا نقول إلا ما يرضي الرب
Sahih al-Bukhari 1303
So patience means restraining your tongue from forbidden speech, your limbs from forbidden actions such as tearing one’s clothes and pulling out one’s hair, and the like, and your heart from forbidden discontent with the decree and destiny of Allah. So be patient and seek reward, awaiting the reward from Allah.
