The questioner : His EminenceThe Shaykh : We hear from you in the supplication of witr or qunut that you say, may Allah guide you: “O Allah, we seek Your help and we seek Your guidance” to the end of the supplication. And we hear some of the brothers who are praying saying: “Ameen,” and some of them saying: “Subhanak” (Glory be to You). What is the correct response to that?

The Shaykh : Well, this is a question I am directing to you: What is the meaning of a person saying “O Allah, we seek Your help and we seek Your guidance”? Is he asking Allah to help him and guide him, or is he informing about himself that he seeks help from Allah and seeks His guidance? There is a possibility that you intend to inform that you do not seek help except from Allah and do not seek guidance except from Allah. But the apparent meaning, at least to me, is that “O Allah, we seek Your help and we seek Your guidance” is asking for help and guidance. Accordingly, it is appropriate to say “Ameen.” Yes.
