Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :
(4) And who brings out the pasture (5) And [then] makes it black stubble. والذي أخرج المرعى * فجعله غثاء أحوى
[Al-A'la 87:4-5]
"Ghatha'" is well known; it is what the flood carries away, such as husks, sticks, and the like.
black, dry stubble أحوى
"Ahwa" means black. It was said regarding the meaning of the verse that Allah the Exalted made the pasture green with a complete greenness, so much so that its intense greenness nearly made it black. It was also said that the meaning is that this pasture and fresh green vegetation, Allah Blessed and Exalted is He makes it dormant and dry. This is an example of the deeds of the disbelievers: they are fresh and good-looking, but they do not benefit them. And Allah knows best.
