The fourth condition: residence.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The fourth?
The student: Residence. Residence means being a resident.

The Shaykh : Being a resident, what is its opposite? Be patient, my brother, there is a discussion here, what is its opposite?
The student: Travel.

The Shaykh : Its opposite is travel. What is the evidence that a traveler is not required to fast?
The student: The evidence that a traveler is not required to fast?

The Shaykh : Yes, that a traveler is not required to fast.
The student: His saying, the Exalted:
And whoever is sick or on a journey فمن كان من مريضا أو على سفر

The Shaykh : His saying, the Exalted: "And whoever is sick or on a journey, then an equal number of days [to be fasted] later." Now, I ask you, did you come here as a pilgrim performing 'Umrah?
The student: No.

The Shaykh : Are you from the people of Makkah?
The student: I am from the people of Makkah.

The Shaykh : You are from the people of Makkah, okay. Who came as a pilgrim performing 'Umrah? You? Rest. Is it permissible for you to break your fast?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : It is permissible, because you are?
The student: A traveler.

The Shaykh : Because you are a traveler. Okay, which is better, to break your fast or to fast?
The student: It is a relative matter.

The Shaykh : Yes, this depends on the ruling regarding the person's condition. Okay.
He says, "If I perform 'Umrah when I arrive in Makkah during the day while fasting, I will perform it while exhausted and with a weak performance. If I delay it until the night, I will perform it with energy. If I break my fast and perform it when I arrive, I will perform it with energy." Which is better: to perform it upon arrival with energy, or to perform it upon arrival with laziness and fatigue, or to perform it at night?
The student: He may delay 'Umrah until the night and combine the two good things.

The Shaykh : He may delay 'Umrah until the night and combine the two good things. As for delaying it, this is correct, we agree with you on that. But combining the two good things, we do not agree with you. Rest.
The Sunnah is for a person to hasten to perform 'Umrah from the day he arrives. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used not to dismount his camel until he reached the House, and he would perform 'Umrah immediately. Take this rule as a methodology for your lives: "The intended thing is started before everything else". Make the intended thing the first of everything, because it is the intended thing. This rule has branches, among which is the hadith of 'Utbah ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him). He was the imam of his people, and he grew old and his eyesight weakened. Between him and his people were valleys; a valley where the flood would come and prevent him. So he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to come out to him to pray in a place in his house that 'Utbah had made a prayer place. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was the best of people in character. He went out to him with a group of his Companions. When he reached him and the people of the neighborhood learned that the Messenger had come, a group of people gathered at the house to witness the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). 'Utbah informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he had prepared food for him. But the Messenger (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) said:
Show me the place in your house where you want me to pray, so he showed it to him, and he prayed in it. أرني المكان الذي تريد أن أصلي فيه من بيتك فأراه إياه فصلى فيه
before everything else. This is a matter to make in your lives: the intended thing is started before the secondary thing in everything. Okay.
So, if a person arrives in Makkah for 'Umrah and sees himself exhausted and says, "If I delay 'Umrah until the night and break my fast, I will become energetic. If I do it now without breaking my fast, I will be tired and perform it with laziness. If I break my fast, I will perform it with strength and energy." These are three cases. We say the best is to break your fast and perform it with strength and energy. Okay, four of these.
