The First and Second Conditions: The Completion of the Hawl and the Completion of the Nisab.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The most important thing is the completion of the nisab and the completion of the hawl. Now, what about someone who owns only thirty-nine sheep? Brother, yes, is zakah obligatory on him? Thirty-nine sheep.
The student: It is obligatory on him.

The Shaykh : Zakah is obligatory on him. Now, if the nisab is forty sheep and he owns thirty-nine sheep, is zakah obligatory on him?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Did we not say that one of the conditions for the obligation of zakah is owning the nisab?
The student: There is no zakah on him.

The Shaykh : Correct. Rest now. One who has thirty-nine sheep for purposes other than trade, for breeding, owes no zakah because it is less than the nisab. Good.
