The obligation of zakah upon the completion of the lunar year and reaching the nisab

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A listener from Sudan, who appears to be Muhammad al-Huri, sent a message containing a single question. He says: I own six thousand riyals, and they have been with me for six months. I sent them to Sudan. Is there any zakah due on them?

Answer:
If the lunar year has completed for them, meaning if they remained in Sudan and a full year passed over them, then you must pay zakah on them. However, if you sent them to Sudan to be spent on your family’s needs, or to pay off a debt, or to repair your residence, or for something similar, then there is no zakah on them, because the lunar year has not completed for them. Six months is not a lunar year; the lunar year is twelve months. If the lunar year completes while they are with you or with your agent, then zakah is obligatory on you. If you spent them on your needs before the completion of the lunar year, or to pay off a debt, or in any of the ways these funds are typically spent, then there is no zakah on them. This is similar to if your agent built something in your house out of necessity, or repaired a defect in your house, or spent them on your dependents before the completion of the lunar year, or if you spent them yourself before the completion of the lunar year, then nothing is due on them. Zakah becomes obligatory on them only if they remain until the lunar year has completed for them. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
