Discussion of the annihilation of the Sufis, clarification of its meaning, and refutation of them

The Shaykh : These are the Sufis, and the strange thing is that these Sufis have an annihilation, a Sufi annihilation that is an innovation, an annihilation by which they annihilate themselves from witnessing anything other than Allah, from witnessing anything other than Allah the Exalted. They annihilate themselves from witnessing anything other than Allah, until the person is annihilated by Allah, as they claim, from the remembrance of Allah.
From the remembrance of Allah, he says: There is no god but Allah, and he does not know, because his heart is preoccupied with witnessing whom? With witnessing the One who is remembered. He worships Allah, but he is heedless like a sleeper. He worships Allah while he is like a sleeper, because his heart is absent with whom? With the One who is worshipped, with the One who is worshipped. This is what they call Sufi annihilation, and it is an innovated annihilation of misguidance. It was not upon the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) nor upon those who followed them in goodness, and it is not from the Shari'ah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). But it is from inspirations that come to their hearts, and they think them to be true, and one becomes absent like a drunkard, until some of them begin to beat with their hands and feet as if he is insane. And they take sticks or whips and beat the ground with them. The greatest of them and the closest to it is the one from whom dust flies from his beating. For this reason, they call this type of dhikr the "ghubayrah" (dusty one), the "ghubayrah," because it raises dust. And you know that when a person becomes agitated, meaning when he strikes with force, they, due to the intensity of their agitation, strike with force. When he says: There is no god but Allah, they extend their arms and beat the ground with these sticks as if they are insane. And some of them may faint, and some of them may die. And this did not occur to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) nor to the Companions, and they are more perfect in faith than them. But the devils make it attractive to them. Among this is that they think that the light that is in their hearts is the light of Allah, or that which is in the universe is the light of Allah. So they make the divine attribute of essence a state in the created things. We seek refuge in Allah. Yes.
