The Shaykh : Then the author (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
"The condition of love is that you agree with the one you love*** in his love without disobedience"
Correct. The condition of love that indicates its truth is that you agree with the one you love in his love, meaning in what he loves, without disobedience. If you tried this in your dealings with people and said to someone, "By Allah, I love you intensely, I love you," and then one day he came to you and said, "Do such and such, go to so-and-so and speak to him," and you said, "By Allah, I am not going, I am not going," does this indicate that he loves you? No, because if you were truthful, you would have gone. A person who loves someone feels honored and rejoices when he is commanded, and does not contradict him. And likewise
"So if you claim love for him while disliking*** what he loves, you are one who lies", meaning one who is a liar.
"Do you love the enemies of the beloved and claim*** love for him? That is not possible"
Correct. A person claims that he loves someone, yet he loves his enemies. Is this correct? Say, everyone, is it correct?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : What? If he truly loved him, he would not love his enemies. He would be an enemy to his enemies. Even the children in the markets now, if he wants to test you—whether you love him or not—and he has an enemy among the other children, he comes to you and says, "Are you with me or with him?" Meaning what? Are you among my allies or among his allies? If he says, "No, I am with you," but at the end of the day he finds him with the other one, what does he say? He takes offense and says, "You are a liar. How can you say you are with me and love me, and then go love my enemy?" This is something in the fitrah (innate natural disposition); it is impossible to love the enemies of a person while being truthful in your love for him, absolutely not.
