The questioner: Also, if you would be so kind, O Shaykh, what is the ruling regarding loving Allah?
Answer: It is obligatory for him to love Allah with his entire heart, with a love that nothing can equal, such that Allah is dearer to him than everything else. This is a sincere love that necessitates obeying Him and abandoning His disobedience, and loving His awliya (close friends of Allah) and His messengers, and hating His enemies and detesting them for the sake of Allah . So he loves Allah; Allah the Exalted said: [Al Imran:31], and He said regarding the believers: [Al Maidah:54].
Therefore, it is obligatory for him to love Allah with his entire heart with a sincere love, and for Allah to be dearer to him than everything else. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih al-Bukhari 16. So he loves Allah above all things, and He is dearer to him than all things. Then he loves the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) with a sincere love after the love of Allah, loving him for the sake of Allah, because he is the Messenger of Allah. He loves the believers because they are the awliya (close friends of Allah) and the beloved of Allah. He hates the disbelievers and despises them because they are the enemies of Allah. This is how the believer is. Yes.
