The ruling on combining the love of children with the love of Allah the Exalted

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q305: The questioner asks: How can one combine a father's love for his children with his love for Allah, Mighty and Majestic?
A305: There is no contradiction between them, despite the difference in their meanings. The love of Allah is the love of worship. Allah the Exalted said:
O you who have believed, whoever of you should revert from his religion - Allah will bring forth [in place of them] a people He will love and who will love Him [who are] humble toward the believers, powerful against the disbelievers; they strive in the cause of Allah and do not fear the blame of a critic. That is the favor of Allah; He bestows it upon whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:54]
, and He also said:
And [yet], among the people are those who take other than Allah as equals [to Him]. They love them as they [should] love Allah. But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah. And if only they who have wronged would consider [that] when they see the punishment, [they will be certain] that all power belongs to Allah and that Allah is severe in punishment.
[Al-Baqarah 2:165]
. This is the love of worship, which is the love accompanied by humility and submission to the one loved. This type of love is for Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, alone, and it is the greatest of the types of worship. As for the love of children, the love of food and drink, the love of a wife, friends, and one's homeland, this is natural love. A person is not held accountable for it, as long as he does not prioritize it over the love of Allah the Exalted.
